Finally Babylon Virtual Library!

Today via  we could find out the Open Library has very interesting and ambitious project to create the world online catalogue of every book in every language ever published.

Aaron Swartz, leader of the technical team working on Open Library, suggests that every book ever published needs a single authoritative page on the internet, a bit like a personal homepage.

Open Library is calling each library to donate with their online catalogue. Will all of the libraries in the world support this idea and starting point for this project or Borges Book (virtual) Tower, Babylon Library,  has to wait a bit longer?

Vampire from Serbia at Facebook

I should spent more time in the green instead of using electronics (as I promised), but this is reaction-inspiration to Paul’s post. It all began with Zombie at Facebook that someone (was awhile ago and my memory is shorter as my hair grows longer) infected me. Naturally, I invited other folks at Facebook (movie/book or superwall app. with it) and soon my Zombie became Bishop (or whatever was his name). I didn’t like it frankly, as with Zombie app. there was another one much more appealing-Vampire. I first turned Paul to Vampire, but since other people in my network didn’t feel like being bitten, I infected only 2 chumps and left this app. But then, someone has bitten me again, and I turned again to Vampire/Vampiresse and this time was much better as I turned people to ‘Catolic school Vampire”. You can control the whole application and trick the creator of it! Magic or not, I gained my points and got to Vampire Level while Paul incredibly turned his to Vampire Jedi (I guess he would become Vampire Yoda if he didn’t quit the game as he was really successful in this). It was interesting that a friend, while I enthusiastically talked about how is time for me to turn to the next level of “being Vampiresse” and that he should accept my request to bite him, was confused about this game and he thought actually how hot it is to be bitten by Vampire (remember Coppola’s film Bram Stoker’s Dracula?).

Vampires in mythology comes from Eastern Europe, from Slavic countries with various vampire legends. Vampires are mostly known and refereed to Transylvania and Romania. Vampire typology says:

Most notably, a vampire was believed to pass through several distinct stages in its development. The first 40 days were considered decisive for the making of a vampire. It started out as an invisible shadow and then gradually gained strength from the blood it had sucked, forming a (typically also invisible) jelly-like, boneless mass, and eventually building up a human-like body nearly identical to the one the person had had in life. This development allowed the creature to ultimately leave its grave permanently and begin a new life as an ordinary human. The vampire (who was usually male) was also sexually active and could have children, either from his widow or from a new wife. These could become vampires themselves, but could also have a special ability to see and kill vampires, allowing them to become vampire hunters. The same talent was believed to be found in persons born on Saturday

More on Vampires here. I’ll think about keeping my Vampire’s Bride status, if my army stays and grows in the future.

Should we talk about the weather? (Hi…hi, hi)
Should we talk about the government? (Hi…hi, hi, hi) - REM, Pop Song 89

Natural sauna, Sahara heatwave that last for days and days (and doesn’t seem to stop) hit whole region of South-Eastern Europe and continues in Serbia. Tried to ignore the fact, but the fires started all over Serbia and situation became critical. Calls to emergency have increased, as many people collapse and faint due to heat (exhaustion). More than 35 people died in Romania, Turkey and Greece in June when the mercury shot up to 46 Celsius, from the latest Reuters news. Many people do not have AC’s at home, many people took their holidays and the others practice shortened working hour (I would say something for the last one, but better not). From Republic Hydrometeorologycal service of Serbia say that they measure temperature at Kosutnjak (up to 100m) in stations in the shade up to 2 metres. temperature on the hill in the shade is different than in the downtown of the city. The summer is on the way…I would like to hear someone from meteorologist, scientists, climate experts. How do you handle this issue?

Open science and knowledge: save the Serbian science blog!

“Blogs would have been a great medium for interaction, publishing, communication and collaboration in science, a good place for showcasing Serbian scientific achievement, which has been in the shade lately.”

This time @ the beach, around 2 hours, pure energy, the wind, fire, pyrotechnics, jumping and lot of fans all over the region. With few sentences in Serbian - the show started and ended as it was expected in Rolling Stones perfect manner. This is how it was down there, and once more. Belgrade will be rocking and rolling this Saturday evening, 14th of July. Will Serbia get their satisfaction soon?

the Beyond

I was asked yesterday by an editor of one independent and the biggest media house in Serbia to write a text for their web portal - technology section, on fair use, a month after this, which is not easy for someone who is using cc licences, described here. However, I will be checking my email, writing as hell, and after being beyond of Belgrade and Beyond I need house restructuring regarding the design of the blog and the web site (days of manual html-ing are gone). I hope to catch somewhere wifi and keep up-to-date on interesting things by twittering at least.
