Scandinavian Design – Beyond the Myth

It has been more than 50 years of the presence of Scandinavian design, and it is celebrated by exhibitions Beyond the Myth with various art works from Denmark, Island, Finland, Norway, Sweden.

This exhibition of design with over 200 artworks is placed at Muzej 25.maj in Belgrade from 6.Jun – 2. September 2007. Scandinavian design is clean, neat, with simple solutions, functionality and democratic approach. It presents paradigm to understand the organization of modern life as a movement of great importance in the history of design. In purpose of better perception this exhibition is founded on base of Six Memos for the Next Millennium by Italo Calvino. He emphasizes certain values that are important for creative people. Calvino writes about five different qualities of literature: Lightness, Quickness, Exactitude, Visibility, and Multiplicity (he had intended to write a sixth chapter on Consistency, before his untimely death). As Calvino is Italian literature writer, those qualities were emphasized as values important for creative people in design. He examines these qualities closely, using his “own facile language as the medium”. The exhibition tour program in Europe you can find here.

eIFL GA, cover story, cover letter, writing, jobs, macbook

Today I was asked to help in coordination, management, etc. for upcoming the 7th eIFL GA, later this year in Belgrade, as part-time manager in the Main Board? (I do not like labels). Anyway, I need to build for the start a info-web portal in English for KoBSON with all required data which is ok and minimum I can do, but what really bugs me is my old grandpa’ notebook and it is time for his retirement and I need new one. On eIFL I will write in some future posts with more details, if I do not disappear from this flurry of bits.

With tropic weather difficulties and poor equipment I managed somehow to send CV with cover letter (written for Pulitzer prize: ) to the same institution for three different job offers – thanks to Bora who send me the link. Since competition is on the world-wide level very big, we will see. Thanks H.R. for dopplr invitation. I can be seen more hanging around at the FB and from time to time twittering, but since the summer season and holidays are on the way, this doesn’t apply to me. I need holiday and to be in the nature as I have no break (I am the cruelest boss to myself, all day working).

I am hungry and I need Mac!

Microbloggers? Social networkers?

I have to write para-post story, as everything is hyperlinking with everything. Scobleizer wrote interesting post on new app social networking and ‘minibloggers’ forms, as in the past 4 days at Facebook, I found out really interesting and great apps for everyday functioning, and many of them present mini-blog forms (Twitter, Wallboard, posted items, University and Organization networks, Wall, Last.fm, huh, my moods, films, my Questions and people’s answers, Marketplace, groups, very lively and lovely discussions and great brainstorms).

Anyway, I was very surprised this morning when I found out that one of my RSS Belgrade and Beyond readers is British, and lives in Belgrade, very old blogger of Limbic nutrition blog, where he writes on Neuroscience, Evolutionary Psychology, Psychology, History, Mythology, Semiotics, etc. He found me by para-para hyperlinking way at Facebook, and wrote a scrap at my Wall. Voila! Simple! Social networking! Also, friends within FB can be former colleagues, professors, mentors, founders of Wikia, e.g, or friends, digital gurus and surprize: today I met a man, professor that I used to read (the digital media communities) as student for my communications and media studies. I love Facebook and all the apps that are popping up each day. This is not anymore the second, but third life, with blogs another new web 2.0 forms appearing each day. By the way, does anyone have invitation to Dopplr? (:

Lawrence Lessig Speech at iCommons Summit 2007

Professor Lessig from Stanford Law School gave a speech at iCommons Summit on burning issues of open source, licences, sharing economy,  open education, software  in order to build free culture, freedom to chose so that every author,  scientist or teacher can be free to choose and to make their work available to others. He also had interesting talk on respect movement ( can copyright owners get any r.e.s.p.e.c.t?) and also announced that he decided  “to shift my academic work, and soon, my activism, away from the issues that have consumed me for the last 10 years, towards a new set of issues.”, explained here.

Rolling Stones at Jaz Beach or Red Hot Chili Peppers in Indjija?

When I was a little girl, it was family known thing that if someone asks me what is my favourite football team I should say Red Star. Even today  I am “Red Star” fan, although my knowledge of football is more than miserable. Then I grew up into teenager and I used to listen to grunge music, alternative and rock, and I was always, even before teenage years- the Beatles girl. If someone ask : Beatles or Stones? I would say Beatles of course. Now when I am old-er (hope this post won’t go via D.Day’s ‘Que sera-sera’ way), I know clearly that between Red Hot Chili Peppers or Rolling Stones concert, I would prefer RHCP. Why? I am familiar with very few of Rolling Stones tunes I love to hear and sing, but than I grew up with Red Hot Chili Peppers, and I can listen to certain songs over and over again. I follow their work since early 90′s, I am RCHP fan, as I know many kids and young people get into them in 2000′s, with their recent few albums. I was there from their beginning, not to mention physical transformations and  Anthony Kiedis love named after me (it is not only about Dani California, but those who know Danica was the name mentioned in some RHCP songs), and now seems I am really old, as old friend of mine (older older than me) bought tickets for Rolling Stones concert at Jaz beach, Montenegro, 9th July. Belgrade event is on July 14th. Anyway, why am I writing this? I am not able to go to RHCP concert. Today in the middle of downtown tropic shade I got phonecall from Montenegro just to confirm again, I am going to R.Stones concert. I am indifferent. Ok, I am not that enthusiastic as more than 70.000 people will come from all over the country and others (Italy, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, etc), plus I am not that into Mick Jagger and the gang, nowadays. Respect to them, but again I prefer to enjoy in RHCP. On 9th July, I will be here, getting bored I guess, mingling with crowds of people at this beach, and listening to Angie instead of Dani.

Coffee drinker? Caffeine addict?

What do you drink (water and fruit juices not included) in the morning? How much caffeine do you take during the day, ever wondered? Some historical notes:

* As long ago as 2737 B.C., Chinese Emperor Shen Nung was boiling drinking water when the leaves of a nearby bush fell into the pot, creating a wonderful smelling drink and the first pot of tea.
* Coffee originated in Africa around 575 A.D., where beans were used as money and consumed as food.
* Eleventh century Arabians were known to have coffee beverages.
* While exploring the New World, Spanish conquistadors were treated to a chocolate drink by Aztec Emperor Montezuma in 1519.
* The world’s first caffeinated soft drinks were created in the 1880′s.

Well, surprisingly I got answer why my morning green tea cup makes me content and I have no extra need for cup of coffee – nutrition facts say that cup of green tea or tea has 30mg of caffeine, almost the same as cappuccino, or regular coffee American.

Take a look at the table, some facts and values are not only for tea or coffee but also cola and some soft drinks.
