Goodbye, Wikipedia.jaylee.cn!

You may feel sorry that the whole wikipedia mirror is gone, as the guy who did the same with my blog was also circumventing Chinese content restrictions, as earlier said that citizens of China are not allowed to read Wikipedia. His web site was shut down by his ISP due to supposed threats from government. This is English translation of farewell message.

Apart from this open acces or limitations issue, all my thanks and gratitude for help, comments, reactions and suggestions go to: to Stephen Brown, tonynovak, vlidi, to Bora Zivkovic, snapo, Yan, bernarda, Marc McCrohon, ref, greensmile, raincoaster,

Blog Plagiarism - web infringement!

What happens when someone steals entire content of your blog, actually steals unauthorized mirror of the blog, and the thief injected Google ads on it, breaking intellectual property, copyrights, etc, plus profiting from this noncommercial blog?

This is something that happened to me and let this be loud shame for such an act. It is detected where the stealer comes from, as well as I reported abuse email on their host, and to the Google removals. Thanks to Mirko and to Darren, and here is what you should do if something similar happens to you :

First find out on WHOIS the stealer, report directly to their host, if they abused and/or add ad-sense and making profit of your intellectual property. Report to Google ad-sense support as well as to Google removals. Do not forget, in the case of web infringement to report and send by email or fax to Digital Millenium Copyright Act. Also, report to your friend, colleagues and readers on this, as I realise that my RSS is changed and many of readers decreased. By the way, in my case, when entire blog is copied (not article, but total plagiarism and legal infringement) the Copyscape tool is not working for me. This is direct exposing the thieves URL and you should know this, on today’s day (if it comes to removals).Do not click on their ad-sense.

Below is the photo I copied from their URL and blog plagiarism with ad-senses on the header. If any legal expert can help in my case, every comment, suggestion and direct help is welcomed.

100 Wallpaper design magazine covers

I have been raised up, among other magazines that have been around me for years, with Wallpaper : international.design.interiors.fashion.travel. Wallpaper* is with me for the whole decade, when I was into architecture, making things, travelling, fashion, design. I was even recognizing both editions - while in London (UK), or while sitting at the Starbucks / bookstore drinking my ice apricot tea with cinnamon cake and reading the latest US edition. I know maybe sounds silly, but every event or emotion happened with Wallpaper*. Then, in Belgrade happened the best interior designed apartments, friends, overseas subscriptions and my deeper interest for design, interiors, and everything that surround us in everyday life, changing/making items, things, my work around apartment, and favourite architects and designers. Now I read Wallpaper* online.

All great magazines shift, shuffle, find space and re-shape to survive and prosper and Wallpaper* is no exception. Changing tastes, and our own success, are clearly mapped in this gallery of our first 100 covers. From the tentative first steps, back in 1996, through confident camp to the audacious experimental leaps that we have undertaken in the last year, Wallpaper* has always dared to bare, break boundaries and, occasionally, bemuse. We’ve still got it covered.

To see all 100 covers, click here.

Vote for your favourite and be in with a chance to win a set of Wallpaper* City Guides.

Lot of great covers, these are my three favourites, though it’s hard to choose among the great ones.

KOOP in Belgrade! Yuppie!

I was coping, beside other things, with Serbian journalist (those who live in Serbia know the ’story’) who interviewed me (or I corrected their mistakes in the preview) on web publishing, science blogs, etc., that I didn’t notice that one of my favourite Scandinavian music group is coming very, very soon to Belgrade. Hallelujah! I wrote about KOOP earlier last year, and some of the colleagues gave me the info and now I checked on the Internet. Really poor information pool in Serbian language, actually there is none of the information I could get but via Compost music records, that they will play at the old town fortress of Kalemegdan, that is (one version) , and the other at TBC (wherever and whatever it is). Compost records announced tour dates, and KOOP will play on 1st of June, 2007, at 20h. I believe it will be on open air concert at Kalemegdan, but if anybody find out the information, write it here. You can listen to Koop Island Blues  here or here.

Google Tech Talks on Semantic web in science

Semantic web, finally! From the abstract of Peter Murray-Rust, Reader in Molecular Informatics at the University of Cambridge and Senior Research Fellow of Churchill College, via Yan Feng, interesting video on semantic web in chemistry, GoogleInChi, and other issues in informatics environment. Read and watch!

The millions of scientific papers published each year are an amazing source for scientific discovery but in most of them the experimental data is destroyed by the publication process. Publishers insist on converting semantic data into PDF which effectively destroys everything. We have been developing social and technical strategies to preserve and liberate this data and where this has happened have been able to create completely new mashups and other semantic resources.

EuroVision Song contest 2007, indeed…

Belgrade, Blogroll, Music, Serbia, amusements, culture, general, internet, media — Danica @ 8:17 am, May 13, 2007

I thought at first, after years and years of skipping this ‘important and honourable’ EU music contest when I was kid, I was missing something, but this year’s Eurovision song contest made me to think that the organizers should rename it to EuroTrash music contest because loads of participants had unfun terrible kitsch performance.

And yes - Serbia won at EuroVison 2007 with ballad “Molitva” (”Prayer”), beating Ukraine, which was good as I was watching/listening and realizing that people in Europe thought that Music Song contest is more into ‘vision’ and not ’sound’. Hopefully, my vision, is very well, thank you: ) Here’s  the winning song!

The Power of the Future: Top 5 inventions of Nikola Tesla

You wouldn’t be able to read this post or browse via Web, use computers, telephony, cell phones, all media and other electical and wireless devices, if there wasn’t the greatest electrical inventor, physicist, electrical engineer, philosopher, futurologyst, genius who lit the world: Nikola Tesla.

The present is theirs; The future, for which I work, is mine”- said Tesla more than seven decades ago, to journalists gathered in New York City.

There are lot of books written, related to this visionary inventor as well as some of the Tesla’s selected writings. Beside many sources that you can find on Web, his developments and speeches, these are my top 5 inventions of Nikola Tesla:

1. World First AC Generator which led to electrical development and enlightment of the world. This high frequency high volatage electricity is used today in many communication devices.

tg

2. A.C. / D.C. Tesla’s Wireless power System - including certain devices, now considered to be an untouched method to transmit electrical current without wires.

wt

3. Tesla’s Flying Machine. Tesla did patent (#’s -0165513, and 0165514; Method Of Aerial Transportation), a type of Flying Machine, and both powered by his amazing Turbine.

4.. Tesla’s Earthquake Machine

Excerpt from the New York World
Telegram, July 11, 1935 -

Nikola Tesla revealed that an earthquake which drew police and ambulances to the region of his laboratory at 48 E. Houston St., New York, in 1898, was the result of a little machine he was experimenting with at the time which “you could put in your overcoat pocket.” The bewildered newspapermen pounced upon this as at least one thing they could understand and Nikola Tesla, “the father of modern electricity” told what had happened as follows:

Tesla stated, “I was experimenting with vibrations. I had one of my machines going and I wanted to see if I could get it in tune with the vibration of the building. I put it up notch after notch. There was a peculiar cracking sound. I asked my assistants where did the sound come from. They did not know. I put the machine up a few more notches. There was a louder cracking sound. I knew I was approaching the vibration of the steel building. I pushed the machine a little higher. “Suddenly all the heavy machinery in the place was flying around. I grabbed a hammer and broke the machine. The building would have been about our ears in another few minutes. Outside in the street there was pandemonium. The police and ambulances arrived. I told my assistants to say nothing. We told the police it must have been an earthquake. That’s all they ever knew about it.”

5. Extraterrastrial Radio Transmitter - Teslascope, radio transceiver designed with the intention of communicating with extraterrestrial life on other planets. It received publicity after Tesla’s statement on the device was published by Time magazine in their July 20, 1931 issue celebrating Tesla’s 75th birthday.

Evolution of Architecture: Rem Koolhaas

Belgrade, Blogroll, World wide, art, culture, design, general, internet, media — Danica @ 5:49 pm, May 7, 2007

“We live in an almost perfect stillness and work with incredible urgency”

And more on Rem Koolhaas: he will hold a lecture on May 12th 2007, Saturday, at 13h, within Evolution conference - Belgrade design week. As the Pritzker Prize winning architect, the Jury described him as visionary and a philosopher. Critics have argued that Koolhass ignores all consideration for beauty and taste and many scholars and colleaguse have difficulty classifying him. That’ s why we love him. He is also the founder of OMA - Office for Metropolitan Architecture, and AMO.
